Fishing

The Cache la Poudre River is truly a hidden treasure, with majestic cliffs and intriguing rock formations enveloped in ponderosa and lodgepole pines, sagebrush, mountain mahogany and aspen. Not to mention the bounty of trout and other native fish species filling the river! While you enjoy the great fishing along the Cache la Poudre, remember to take a look around at the beauty of the canyon. The river is full of spots along the highway where you can pull off and park and find your perfect fishing hole. While you can bait fish in some spots along the river, the Poudre, Colorado's only designated 'Wild & Scenic' river, is truly a fly fisherman's paradise.

Fort Collins is also home to the extremely popular Horsetooth Reservoir, which is stocked with smallmouth bass and walleye that you can catch from ashore or from a boat. If you're looking for an easy in-city option we suggest Sheldon Lake at City Park. If exploring wide open spaces is more your speed, Fort Collins has 15 natural areas that permit fishing as well.

Our partner outfitters can set you up with guides, rods, reels, and more. Check them out below!
