If you're looking for historic place to stay on your trip to Fort Collins (or your next staycation), look no further than the Edwards House Inn. This historic home located on Mountain Avenue was built in 1904 by town architect Montezuma Fuller. The house was occupied by the Edwards family until 1981 and converted to a bed and breakfast in 1993. Now, Edwards House is a wonderful place to stay or host a conference or wedding. The current proprietor is focused on sustainability and supporting local in everything they do. Edwards House event features the Cedar & Sage Mercantile, a shop that sells local products and the sustainable amenities that are provided at the Inn.

We spoke with Abbie Stout, Owner, and Rebecca Hodge, General Manager, of Edwards House Inn to learn more about this special property.

What do you love about the Fort Collins

Everyone is so friendly and open to new experiences and it makes it easy to feel right at home here.

What are your top 3 favorite activities to do in Fort Collins?

  1. Biking the Poudre River Trail and taking a pit stop at the Poudre River Whitewater Park to cool off.
  2. Going to concerts at the local venues, especially the Mishawaka.
  3. Hiking and fishing in the Poudre Canyon and at Horsetooth.

What "can't miss" activity/restaurant/place would you tell a first-time visitor to go?

I would recommend taking a quick drive up the Poudre River Canyon and stopping to enjoy the scenery along the way. Eat lunch at the Mishawaka on the deck by the river.

What makes Edwards House Inn unique?

What is the story behind how Edwards House got its start?

It's truly been an adventure. My (Abbie) journey began in 2010, when I moved to Costa Rica in search of a property to create an eco-friendly B&B/hostel. I had just graduated from Fort Lewis College and was ready for a change of scenery. After being let go from my cocktail waitressing job at a historic hotel in Durango, I made myself a promise: I didn't want to work for anyone else again.

That same year, I opened Luz en el Cielo Eco-B&B/Hostel, my very first business venture. It became my classroom, teaching me every skill required to run a small hotel business, from the practical to the deeply personal, all in a hands-on way that no textbook could capture.

In 2017, life brought a new opportunity: the chance to purchase and take over operations at the Edwards House in Fort Collins. This move brought my family and me back home to Colorado. Since then, we've balanced honoring the inn's timeless character with evolving its offerings. We've expanding weddings, events, and conferences into a central part of our operations, transforming Edwards House into not just a place to stay, but a place to gather, celebrate, and connect.
