Discover Fort Collins' History

Fort Collins has a rich history from first being a military outpost of the U.S. Military in 1864 until 1867 when settlers began arriving. Just shortly after, Colorado State University, then known as the Agricultural College of Colorado, was founded. The city’s first population boom came in 1872 with the establishment of an agricultural colony which helped the local economy thrive as well.
