In The Beginning: of Species Exhibition

Fri Apr 6, 2018 at 12:00 pm - Sat Apr 28, 2018 at 5:30 pm
In The Beginning: of Species The Center is pleased to announce, In The Beginning of the Species, an exhibition. This art and science exhibition is a collaboration between a School for Global Environment Sustainability (SOGES) funded Global Challenge Research Team (GRCT), Crises and Creativity, at Colorado State University, and The Center for Fine Art Photography.  The GCRT have created text based artworks using an extinction algorithm developed by the team. This text applies the loss of species to iconic prose to illustrate and emphasize the ongoing crisis of species extinction. Alongside these text-based pieces are various works by photo-based artist, Alice Hargrave. Hargrave’s pieces range from a 22-foot long and 10 feet tall silk image titled, The Biosphere, to framed images on the wall and a sound piece featuring the call of birds on the extinction list. Finally, a video piece titled, Lost, by Debora Bernagozzi is a double layered video exploring the feelings of loss and being lost.  All of these artworks engage in different ways with a world in crisis where the damage inflicted by human caused global change are not merely facts and figures but a sensory experience that takes hold of the audience’s imagination and hopefully, a deeper engagement with need for solutions to obtain a healthy and sustainable planet.
