November 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 12 mission, but the art that accompanied it remains little known. The Moon Museum was conceived by the artist Forrest “Frosty” Myers, who was deeply excited about the American space program and wanted to place works by contemporary artists aboard the Apollo 12 Lunar Module to reside with it on the surface of the Moon. The Moon Museum: Unofficial Art on Apollo 12 sheds light on this important historical moment, offering a captivating example of some of the complex ways in which art and technology are interrelated.
