Classical Speaking
With Michelle Stanley, Flute, and Kathryn Harms, Harp
Wednesday, October 19, 7:30 p.m., Griffin Concert Hall
CSU’s chamber orchestra’s classical concert features Overture No. 1 by Louise Farrenc, a contemporary of Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert, and the first woman to hold a faculty position at the Paris Conservatoire. The Sinfonia, conducted by Maestro Wes Kenney, welcomes one of the department’s newest faculty artists, Kathryn Harms, who joins Michelle Stanley, flute, for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s delightful Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra in C Major, K. 299/297c. The orchestra also performs French composer Camille Saint-Saens' Symphony in A Major, which is an early composition rediscovered in 1974.
