Gold Standard: Shor, Kovacs, Britten, and Beethoven

    • The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s principal clarinetist, Boris Allakhverdyan, performs two works for this versatile instrument: Alexey Shor’s Verdiana for Clarinet and Orchestra and Béla Kovács’ lively klezmer-toned Sholem Alekhem, rov Feidman! The FCS gets a workout in the 4 Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten. The evening wraps up with the gold standard among orchestral works: Ludwig van Beethoven’s blockbuster Symphony No. 5 in C minor. His iconic four-note opening motif is perhaps the most recognizable theme ever composed.
