What is a film festival? Splashy red-carpet outfits might come to mind, but at ACT Human Rights Film Festival, you can see new movies and filmmakers from around the world in Fort Collins!

The tenth annual ACT Human Rights Film Festival is April 2-6, 2025 at both The Lyric —Fort Collins’ independent movie theater—and Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center. ACT brings 20+ excellent, new human rights films showcasing stories that inspire to northern Colorado. Festivalgoers have the chance to meet visiting filmmakers, activists and local changemakers, too.

Behind the scenes

ACT Film Festival

"A film festival is a complex event showcasing dozens of artists and hosting inspiring speakers from around the world," managing director Beth Seymour explains. Behind the scenes, she ensures all the festival’s programming goes on without a hitch.

The full festival schedule will be announced at ACT’s 10th annual Kickoff Party at Odell Brewing (800 E Lincoln Ave) on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. The party is free and open to everyone! Not only will Odell tap the 10th ACT Screening Session Ale, but Ben & Jerry’s of Fort Collins will be there to scoop free ice cream. Please RSVP here.

The best place for festivalgoers to stay is the Armstrong Hotel (259 S College Ave)—which is about one mile from ACT’s two festival venues—because ACT’s visiting filmmakers stay there, too! This year ACT festivalgoers get 20% off at the Armstrong Hotel’s website.
